Ready to explore other ways I can help support you?

What is a session like?

  1. We take a little time to talk about your intention or goal for our session.

  2. I look at the energetic balance in your body.

  3. I begin with a short guided meditation to help you transition into a restful and relaxed state.

  4. I offer 60 minutes of Reiki. There is nothing you need to do during this time but rest and receive.

  5. At the end, we reflect on your experience and anything that came up intuitively for either of us.

Reiki (pronunciation: Ray-Key) is a non-invasive Japanese energy work practice that promotes healing and stress relief. It was discovered in 1922 on Mount Kurama by Usui Mikao. Since then, it has been taught and practiced all over the world. It can be done with gentle touch or none at all.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: Rei, meaning “something mysterious, miraculous, and sacred” and Ki, meaning “the atmosphere, something unseen, and or the energy of the universe.” Many cultures have a similar concept, such as chi and prana. In a session, I act as a conduit for that energy, like the cord of a charger. It does not originate from me.

In Reiki, energy is channeled through a practitioner and into a recipient to help get everything flowing again. Think of it like getting plugged into a charger. Reiki is understood to replenish what has been running low, restore balance, and clear blockages. The relaxation it promotes can help the nervous system shift out of activated states, such as “fight or flight,” and into the parasympathetic state (AKA “rest and digest”). A relaxed state is associated with lower cortisol and supports the body’s natural healing process, among other benefits.

Stress can wreak havoc on our bodies and manifest as physical symptoms. I know stress has brought me many a headache, sleepless night, and tummy issues! Many people come to Reiki for both the physical and emotional sides of stress. People often describe the experience as warm and/or deeply relaxing.

To be abundantly clear, Reiki is NOT a substitute for medical care. It is a complementary wellness practice that can be incorporated alongside whatever else you are doing to care for yourself. As always, please consult your medical care team before making any changes that may effect your health!

About Reiki & How I Practice It

Am I the Reiki practitioner for you?

My approach to Reiki is heavily influenced by the way in which I was taught it. I am certified through Komyo ReikiDo, which was founded by Inamoto Hyakuten, a Japanese Buddhist Monk. I was taught a “less is more” style of Reiki. I have come to only incorporate a very short guided meditation to the beginning of my sessions to aid in transitioning my clients into a restful and relaxed state. I do not really use crystals nor do I go deep into discussing the Chakras (energy centers in the body). At the end of my Reiki sessions, I will reflect with my clients about the energetic balance I encountered in their body, their experience receiving the energy, and if anything came up for either of us intuitively during the session.

Additionally, my Reiki sessions are offered at a distance and that isn’t something to worry over. The best analogy I can think of for this is WiFi. You don’t have to be directly wired in to receive the signal. It reaches you wherever you may be. Reiki is not bound by time or physical space.
